Málaga

MÁLAGA

The city of Málaga is characterised by three factors: the Mediterranean sea, the Guadalmedina river and the mountains proximity. In fact, the eastern city area is a long and narrow strip of land surrounded by the sea and mountains.

The eastern side, with the exception of Malagueta area, is dominated by traditional fishermen’s houses all the way to villas with gardens in the districts of Pedregalejo and El Limonar.

In the east side is located the popular residential area of El Palo, an old enclave that preserves the tradition of Málaga.

Calle Larios

The city center. The famous Calle Larios is the commercial area of Málaga. There you can enjoy an afternoon shopping with family or friends, cultural visits or just enjoying a good wine or beer accompanied by delicious fried fish.

Pasaje de Chinitas

You would not see properly the center of Málaga if you don’t walk from Plaza de la Constitución to Pasaje de Chinitas, one of the most charming corners of the city. Here you can reach some of the popular narrow alleys with bars with terraces and the Café de Chinitas, famous from 1937 by the renowned poet García Lorca.

Up to Gibralfaro Castle

In addition to walking through the city center, it would be a good way to start your visit to Málaga by going up to Gibralfaro Castle. From the top of Gibralfaro Castle you have a wonderful panoramic view of Málaga city.

Alcazaba

The Alcazaba is also a place worth visiting, a monument said to be the Alhambra of Málaga. It is a 12th-century Arab-era fortress, where you can see an Arabian-style palace an beautiful garden areas.

From its walls, you will enjoy fantastic panoramic views of Málaga city.

Visit the cathedral

The cathedral is other of the monuments to visit in Málaga. Inside, you will find numerous works of art from Gothic style to Renaissance.

Muelle Uno

The port of Málaga has over 60 restaurants and shops and is definitely worth a visit. Without a doubt, the most beautiful views of Málaga. With the Mediterranean in the background, it is the only point in the city where you can record in one shot the three most important monuments of the city: the Cathedral, the Gibralfaro Castle and the Alcazaba.

Here you can easily find a place for a snack, lunch, dinner or a cocktail. There are many options, from traditional Málaga cuisine to other cuisines of the world. Muelle Uno boasts that there is the only Michelin-starred restaurant owned by Jose Carlos García.

Here you will also find your shopping, whatever your style, ¡your one is at Muelle Uno!

Museums

The city of Málaga has undergone great cultural development in recent years, largely due to the opening of new museums, which has changed the image of this Andalusian city. The most important museums in the city of Málaga are the Picasso Museum, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, the Pompidou Center, the Center for Contemporary Art (CAC), the St. Petersburg Russian Museum Collection and the Car Museum.

Atarazanas Market

Among other tourist attractions in the historic center of Málaga, the visit to the Atarazanas Market is worth it. The Nazari-style main entrance gate to the market was rescued from an old Arab shipyard where ships were built and repaired in the 15th century.

Tapas El Pimpi

When it’s time to eat, the variety of restaurants is extensive and the terraces are crowded. If you want to go to the classic one, you should go to El Pimpi, whose terrace overlooks the Roman theater. Highly recommended experience!

Football and basketball

If you like sports, you should go to La Rosaleda Stadium (home of Málaga C.F.) and Martín Carpena (home of the Unicaja basketball team). In both places you can enjoy a great atmosphere as the fans with heart and soul encourage their teams. An experience you can't miss!

Film festival

The festival reflects the main premieres of Spanish cinema, including documentaries and short films. It has established itself as the main platform and event for the Spanish film industry, it is a first-class cultural event with a large audience and it receives a lot of attention from the national and international media every year.

Malaga Feria

It is a wonderful event that takes place in August every year. During the day, the city center is full of people, also due to the time of the year, when hundreds of thousands of people around the world spend their holidays on the Costa del Sol. The historic center is decorated with lanterns and floral decorations. Tents are built for performances to children and adults, dances, parades with the orchestra and endless events. At night, the festivities focus on El Real, where tents, fair stands and funfairs entertain audiences.
